Good performance, high price, annual maintenance cost., June 8, 2012 This review is from: Oreck Magnesium Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Misc.) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?) I had always shied away from Orecks in the past. I have friends who absolutely adore them, but as they explained their experience with Oreck I was always unsure it was a good idea for me to buy an Oreck for myself.
Why?
Well, there are two reasons really.
1) Regular maintenance despite a higher cost up front. Orecks cost more than most other vacuums as a rule. But once you pay the premium price, you have to take it to an Oreck service center annually to replace motor parts, gaskets, and belts. This is not the case with any other vacuum brand that I am aware of. Of course, my friends had their Oreck vacuum for years and years, but over the lifetime of the vacuum they continued to shell out money on something they already purchased.
2) Orecks are never rated very highly by Consumer Reports. I've never seen any Oreck model in the top ten vacuums in independent testing of 50 vacuums.

- it's very lightweight so using it on the stairs and transporting between floors is not a work out,
- fits easily under coffee table and the couch. Also I am impressed how powerful it is, it sucks all dirt very well,
- switching bags is very easy thanks to zippered main body,
- doesn't "eat" rugs and socks;) it turns off when sucking too long drapes and any fabric, unlike my Hoover which I like too, but vacuuming the rugs is a challenge,
- works smooth on carpet, tile and hardwood floors,
- love the design and colors,
- easy to store, sturdy and well made,
- comes with 7 year warranty and 3 yearly tune ups.
Minuses:
- it comes with 30 feet cord and 40 would be better for me (I still have to change the sockets),
- like most regular vacuums it doesn't do good job on cleaning corners, so additional just one tube for that would be nice. Luckily for me I have a hand held vacuum. I googled and Oreck Magnesium... Read more

Our third Oreck vacuum, this is the best one yet: great power, quieter (2 speeds), lighter, and, most importantly, it works! We use it on ceramic tile, plush carpet and rugs -- and it gets it all! It's especially good with pet hairs, too. Lastly, it's so powerful that it is almost self-propelled!
