It was a workhorse, but it gave out right before Christmas in 2007. In a hurry to get a new vacuum to prepare for guests, I purchased a Dirt Devil. It was a disaster from the beginning. It blew dust everywhere instead of sucking it and although it was lightweight, there was no convenient place to grab it. The onboard attachments were very short so the vacuum HAD to be picked up to actually use them. I could go on and on about the negatives so I was not all that unhappy when it broke - except it was on Christmas day 2009 as I was doing the last minute vacuuming prior to picking up my house guest at the airport. This time I determined I would get a good vacuum cleaner even if it meant I had to go without vacuuming for awhile. Fortunately, I found this one and when it arrived, it was fairly easy to assemble.
